Someone once said “Calm sea has never made a skilled sailor”. There are ups and downs in life and those terrific moments are probably there to taught us a lesson how to stay strong emotionally and mentally.

Unfortunately, the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Dr. Ben Carson shared some devastating news on his Facebook profile. His mother Sonya Carson has passed away this Tuesday evening. The cause for Sonya’s death was Alzheimer, the disease she was diagnosed with in 2011.

No matter how devastated he was, he didn’t want his sad emotions to get on his way so he wrote a whole tribute on Facebook dedicated to his mother who he regarded as his biggest inspiration.

In his post, he started out by breaking down the news of losing his mother, and explaining how despite her coming from an “impoverished background with very little formal education, she somehow understood how success was achieved in our society.” Carson explained that when he or his brother tried to make an excuse for something that happened, his mom would quote the poem “Yourself to Blame,” by Mayme White Miller.

Whenever Ben Carson was speaking about his life, he was always mentioning his mother, as they lived in great poverty but his mother always taught him to work hard and be responsible.

His mother, Sonya, raised Carson and his brother on her own and often worked multiple jobs just to fulfill their basic necessities. However, when she saw her sons were at risk of falling behind, she forced them to read two books a week and provide her with written reports.

Mother’s love towards her children is always one of a kind. The most sincere and greatest one.

Dr. Carson is so blessed for having such a wonderful person as his mother.

RIP Sonya.

Our thoughts and prayers go to Ben Carson and his family during this sad, difficult and devastating moments
